Had an amazing time on the Podcast with Keith discussing his New Book, the PBR, bull riders, cowboys & history. Keith has the respect, admiration & trust of many inside & outside the bullring world including Ty Murry, Shorty Gorham, Justin McBride, Cody Lambert & J.B. Mauney to name just a few. All I can say is you are going to love this book, Keith's a brilliant writer who captivates the reader with his unrelenting research, truth and story telling. They ride horses, rope calves, buck broncs, ride and fight bulls and they even wrestle steers. They are black cowboys, and the spirit of their pursuits intersected with America’s struggle for racial equality, human rights and social justice.“I think your notion of the skills it takes, the horsemanship … you’re countering the notion that enslaved people had no skills,” said Lonnie Bunch III, Secretary of the Smithsonian Institute and Founding Director of the National Museum of African American History and Culture, “and, see, that’s an important part of the story.”Beginning at the turn of the 20th century, Black Cowboys of Rodeo is a collection of 100 years-worth of cowboy stories set against the backdrop of segregation, the Civil Rights Movement and eventually the integration of a racially divided country; and told by the unsung heroes whose accomplishments and rightful place in history have been disregarded and all but forgotten. This collection is not a final document. Or a definitive story. It is a work in progress. For many readers, Black Cowboys of Rodeo, which at its core are traditional cowboy stories, is an introduction to a whole new universe of possibilities and an unvarnished, firsthand look at a seldom documented segment of the African American experience.“In the ‘50s and ‘60s, there was a drive among black folks … to excel and overcome all sorts of barriers in order to achieve what they wanted to achieve,” said Rev. James Lawson, leading nonviolence advocate during the Civil Rights Movement. “I’m not surprised at all that a sizable number of black cowboys, who’ve been misrepresented and not represented in our history books and films, were among those who did that.”Resources:http://keithryancartwright.com/twitter.com/ProfessorKRCimdb.com/name/nm2241209Show Sponsors:@moderncowboypodcast@moderncowboyperformancewww.moderncowboy.globalModern Cowboy@nrsworld@twistedxShow Music:“Cowboy” By: Kolt Barberhttps://www.koltbarber.com/“The Ropin Pen” By: Trent Willmonhttps://trentwillmon.com/MC Podcast Production & Editing: Tyler Hillenbrand@tyhbrand

It was an honor to have Greg Putnam on the Podcast, Navy Seal and cofounder of "Little Belt Cattle Company". I really enjoyed our conversation Greg & his partner have a lot of exciting things happening in there venture as first generation cattle ranchers...Little Belt Cattle Company is a family owned and operated American brand founded by combat veterans. We care about raising high quality beef that doesn't destroy the land we love in the process. Our products are born, bred, grazed, processed and eaten right here in the US of A- and we are damned proud of that. If you want imitation fake meat with a kale smoothie on the side- look elsewhere. If you care about providing your family with the highest quality beef or if you catch yourself longing for that western way of life, Little Belt Cattle Company is the brand for you. If you are like us, your grill stays hot no matter the season or weather, your house constantly smells like smoked meat, and your newsfeed is full of food porn. If you have ever heard from your significant other “So you are really staying up all night to make a brisket?”, know you are not alone. We are named for the Little Belt Mountains, a small range that frames the northern border of our ranch that embodies our values in its likeness. Hard people settled here long ago, and we honor them by pouring our own blood, sweat, triumph, and tribulation into this land. Building a start up cattle company in 2020 isn't for the faint of heart. You can be sure when you buy Little Belt beef or wear the L-B brand you are representing the American dream and proving that it's still alive and well. We exist to fuel your adventures, family dinners, BBQs, good times, health and dreams in a way that is both good for you and good for your environment. We are Little Belt Cattle Company, a proud American Brand. Had an awesome time on the Podcast talking with Dave Galuszka a real Cowboy from New York & Founder of "Ranch House Coffee".Cowboys brewing coffee is a tradition that can be traced back for generations. We've never wavered on the cowboy values set before us; do what has to be done. There have been no apologies, just pride in our work to provide you the perfect cup to brew.Through hard work and study we made a promise to source, roast and blend the finest beans in small batches. We stand by our roasting standards offering you the chance to explore our aromatic blends. After all, there's no sense in changing what works so well. With a vision and Western world values we went about to hogtie good beans and custom roasting to produce quality coffee blends to please any cowboy crew; yet versatile enough to crossover to the downtown high-rise. Taste the results of our passion. Had a great time getting to know Olivia on the Podcast. She is a breath of fresh air in the music industry with her traditional country music style and beautiful voice. Her New Single "Kiddie Pool" is out 4/9 streaming everywhere...Born and raised on a century farm in Canby, Oregon, Olivia Harms grew up knowing hard work was a way of life. So was music. Olivia’s mom is Joni Harms – singer/songwriter and Western Hall of Fame inductee. Music and hard work went hand in hand for Olivia. She joined her mom on the road playing music before she could walk. You might even say Olivia was born into it, “My first time on stage was when I was 2 days old – my mom, in true Joni style, had labor induced to make her show. From then on I was pretty much on stage by her side and becoming more and more addicted to the adventure of the music business.” At age 6, Santa Claus brought Olivia her first guitar, a baby Taylor. She learned to play and soon started writing her own songs. At 16, Olivia had written enough music to go back to Nashville and record her debut album. She admits that the songs and the writing style was what can be expected from a 16 year old girl. “One of the first songs I ever wrote was about my hometown Canby, Oregon. I had big dreams of sharing a little piece of our family farm and my upbringing with folks by singing the song on the road. Not much rhymes with Canby so I had to get creative. I used the phrase ‘can be’ and strung every fact I could think of . Before I knew it I had a song about my little town and the 150 year old farm I grew up on. When I played it for my mom she said she wished she had thought of it first.” For more than a decade Olivia has included her song Canby in concerts across the US, even France, New Zealand and Australia. After graduating high school in Canby, Olivia continued to play music as she started college at Oregon State University. She earned her bachelor’s degree in agriculture business management, “a back up plan in case music doesn’t work out” she joked. But music continued to fire her soul and after college Olivia started commuting to Nashville to write and record demos. She continues to base herself out of Oregon but spends about half her year in Nashville. In 2019 Olivia decided it was time to start planning for her second album. She shopped around for a producer and narrowed down her song choices. Once again mother, Joni Harms, offered some valuable advice by suggesting Olivia reach out to D. Scott Miller, a former songwriter and friend of Joni’s when she was signed to Capital Records in the late eighties. It was obvious that D. Scott understood the sound and direction Olivia was aiming for. Together they chose 10 songs from Olivia's catalog to record and set a recording date in 2020.Covid19 postponed recording twice, but Olivia wasn’t going to let a pandemic kill her dream. “I figured that no one knew how long this would last, and no one gets anywhere by putting their dreams on hold. So we went ahead with the recording in May of 2020. My mom accompanied me to Nashville and we had a blast making the project!” Olivia has released 2 singles from her upcoming album “Rhinestone Cowgirl”. The singles “Hey There Cowboy” and “Gypsy” each gained over 15k views within the first weekend of being released. Olivia says “seeing the numbers climb was one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever felt. I poured my heart and soul into the songs and the project. So to see them do so well as an independent project right off the bat was amazing!”Olivia looks forward to getting back on the road again and playing her new music live. “I’ve opened for acts like Dan+Shay, Old Dominion, Mark Chesnutt, Jerrod Niemann, and Diamond Rio. It’s wonderful to see my name next to these greats, but it’s interacting with people, seeing them smile and hearing their stories that I miss the most. Sharing my stories and seeing people relate to my music in the crowd is why I do what I do”.To keep up with Olivia’s upcoming concert schedule follow her on Instagram and if you’re lucky you might just hear a little song about her rural hometown in Oregon called Canby.Resources:www.oliviaharms.com@oliviaharmsofficialShow Sponsors:@moderncowboypodcast@moderncowboyperformancewww.moderncowboy.globalModern Cowboy@nrsworldShow Music:“Cowboy” By: Kolt Barberhttps://www.koltbarber.com/“The Ropin Pen” By: Trent Willmonhttps://trentwillmon.com/MC Podcast Production & Editing: Tyler Hillenbrand@tyhbrand

Kirk & I had a great time on the Podcast.... so much so he forgot to mention during recording he competed in a show "Extreme Cowboy Backcountry Invitational" in which he won the Grand Champion & the Top Colt buckle. As Kirk tells it..."I was born and raised in the interior of BC, near the widely known Shuswap lakes. I hail from a large ranching and blue collar background. Our family is large, but we are quite close knit. I was raised along-side cousins who are more like siblings and we all share common interests in horses, ranching, hunting and sports. Having family that ranched in BC and AB meant that we were on the road, between the two, often. After high-school, I migrated to AB (GOD’s COUNTRY) because it’s always felt like home to me. It’s where I wanted to be. I live on a ranch, near Okotoks, AB and still spend a great deal of my time on the highway, living my best life. I love all sports but I have to admit that Skijor season is a HUGE highlight for me! When I can mix my best friends, horses, snow and speed, it doesn’t get much better! Towing a skier/snowboarder down a track, at mock-chicken speed, is a thrill beyond measure! It’s even better when we toss someone on a lounge and team-up two horses to rip them down the runway, in front of thousands of screaming fans! I teach Grade 2 and Gym, at a Catholic school, by day and it truly lights up my life. Each day is a new adventure and the energy we share is inspiring and life-giving! Our family has encountered a great deal of loss, both young and old. From losing my youngest brother, cousins, several uncles and my grandparents, that loss, either natural in progression or sudden has both deepened my faith and our family unity. We can look at loss and be saddened, which is OK, but we can also use it to celebrate the time we did share together and use those memories/experiences to better the lives of others, knowing that would make them smile. I live life in the fast lane and have faced several injuries along the way. I’ve broken many bones and lived through several fairly traumatic accidents both in vehicles and with livestock. I’ve had a major skull fracture and roughly 15 concussions. I’ve experienced struggles with permanent headaches, speech deficits and memory inconsistency but I also refuse to let any of these minor side-affects slow me down. I’ve aptly earned the nickname “Gongshow” and it’s a bit of a handle that outlines who I am… Life is meant to be lived and I plan on sliding into my pine-box yelling – NOW THAT WAS A RIDE! At this point in my life, I don’t rodeo but it’s always been and continues to be a huge part of our family and who we are.I love the sport and many of my friends are part of that community. Given my time constraints, I prefer to ride on the ranch, move cows with family/friends, explore the backcountry that surrounds us and find cool spots for unique images… I focus on conditioning and establishing quality horses that can compete in multiple disciplines. I’ve won several invitational “cowboy challenges” for top-colt and all-around titles. To me, the “West” is a way of life. It’s a culture that embodies hard-work and community. The West is rich in history and grounded in traditions that have been carried forward for generations. Authenticity and integrity are two of the most important aspects of the Western way of life, to me. In my images, I aim to share authentic experiences and those who have a story to share. Above all, I aim to portray our western way of life in an appealing and reputable manner."Resources:@bar_ep_photoShow Sponsors:@moderncowboypodcast@moderncowboyperformancewww.moderncowboy.globalLink in Bio To Shop Use Code: MODERNCOWBOY For a 10% Discount@nrsworldShow Music:“Cowboy” By: Kolt Barberhttps://www.koltbarber.com/“The Ropin Pen” By: Trent Willmonhttps://trentwillmon.com/MC Podcast Production & Editing: Tyler Hillenbrand@tyhbrand

I had a great time on the Podcast with Matt, an amazing young entrepreneur talking about the building a his Jerky Empire!"The Matt-Hat Jerky story began long before I was born. My Grandpa Kuplack was making some amazing jerky when my Dad was little. He did not sell it, but he gave it to everyone he liked.(If you were one of those people, consider yourself lucky and if you knew him, but didn’t get any jerky, well, now you know why.)Grandpa gave his secret recipe to many people and he told them “Shhh…I am only giving this recipe to you”. After Grandpa died in 2013 my dad compared the “Secret Recipe” he was given with the “Secret Recipe” many others were given only to find out that no one had been given the real secret recipe at all!" continued.... on the website.Resources:https://matthatjerky.com/@matthatjerkyShow Sponsors:@moderncowboypodcast@moderncowboyperformancewww.moderncowboy.globalModern Cowboy@nrsworldShow Music:“Cowboy” By: Kolt Barberhttps://www.koltbarber.com/“The Ropin Pen” By: Trent Willmonhttps://trentwillmon.com/MC Podcast Production & Editing: Tyler Hillenbrand@tyhbrand
